Hi, I'm Josefina. I'm a front end web developer and designer.

About Me

My name is Josefina Mancilla. I'm an Austin based web developer with a background in multimedia journalism and design. My interest in web development stemmed from my work in journalism, where I started out designing things for print. Through that, I realized I wanted to design for more than just print, I wanted to be able to build websites. So I learned to do just that.

My other passions in life include: my pitbull baby Gunny — who you can see a painting of in my artwork section, which is coincidentally another one of my passions — fitness and health, and watching GOT, Grey's Anatomy and This is Us — the last two wreck me equally and I am not ashamed.

What I Offer

Discover

My process begins with researching about my project, the users it's intended for, and the purpose and features of the project. I like to really know who I'm designing for, and what their mindset is before I begin coding.

Design

After brainstorming and researching, my next step is to begin wireframing, so that I have a clear vision about what I need for my code. My experience in design allows me to build not only an effective backend, but a beautiful and intuitive front end as well.

Deploy

Finally, after much time spent planning, coding and debugging, we get to the exciting part where I give you a fully functioning web app! My various skills in design and web development help me carry out your ideas to life.

Loteria

Technologies: HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, jQuery

Deployment: GitHub Pages

A multi-player game that resembles Bingo, designed and created by myself. Players can choose the number of boards they want generated for the game. An algorithm shuffles the images on the board and the deck of cards at the start of each game. The game announces the winner once a player blacks out their board.

Technologies: Node.js, Express, EJS, MongoDB, JavaScript, HTML5, CSS3, Bootstrap

Deployment: Heroku

A multi-page web app that is both a social network for bodybuilders and a workout tracker application. The backend utilizes Mongoose and the frontend utilizes EJS. I created the backend models based off of my own knowlegde of lifting.

XCursion

Technologies: Node.js, Express, Angular.js, MongoDB, jQuery, HTML5, CSS3

Deployment: Heroku

A single-page web app with an Express backend and Angular frontend. This app, which tracks the places you've traveled to or want to go to, was a group project. Most of my work was focused on the frontend side, styling our pages. However, I created our "places" model and routes for the backend.

Connexus

Technologies: Ruby on Rails, PostgreSQL, Node.js, Express, Angular.js, HTML5, CSS3

Deployment: Heroku

A single-page web app with a Rails backend and an Angular/Express frontend. This app is a community board forum, also built as a group project. For the backend, I created our models and routes - excluding authentication. On the front end, I worked on getting full CRUD with our html forms and http requests.

Blue

Technologies: Node.js, Express, Angular.js, MongoDB, Chart.js, HTML5, CSS3, Bootstrap

Deployment: Heroku

A single-page web app with an Express backend and an Angular frontend. I created this app because of my passion for health, but mostly because of my extreme love for data visualization. I wanted to design an app that not only tracked how much water you're drinking on a daily basis, but also helped you visualize it.

Design

One of the things I love most about web development is that I can constantly implement my design skills into the apps and websites I create. Having an understanding of graphic design principles like hierarchy, balance, typography, hues, spacing, and others, allows me to build sites that are intuitive and visually pleasing. Below are some of my favorite graphic design projects. Click on the images to see more.

Artwork

In my free time, I enjoy making art. I have been drawing since I was a young girl; it's one of my fondest memories with my grandpa, who taught me. Being an artist is a big part of why I got into graphic design, and it helps my creativy when it comes to front end development. Below are a few of my favorite pieces.
